As the timeline in which to meet our decarbonisation targets begins to narrow, the enormity of the task and the reality of what must be achieved is taking shape. This has led to a welcome shift in focus to what this transformation will mean for maritime professionals- at sea and ashore and a growing appreciation of the knowledge and skills revolution that will be required. Su Yin Anand

Su Yin has over 20 years of experience in the maritime industry spanning maritime litigation, commercial, innovation and sustainability. Her career has taken her from Singapore to Hong Kong with stints in Shanghai and London. 

Su Yin is  currently on a break from corporate life and using the time to pursue personal goals and learning.  

She is the co-founder of The Captain’s Table, a global maritime pitch competition in Hong Kong. She is also an Independent Director of Hafnia Limited and a Senior Advisor to the Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation.  

 

James Forsdyke

James Forsdyke is the Managing Director of the Lloyd’s Register Maritime Decarbonisation Hub. He joined Lloyd’s Register in 2006 while earning a Master of Engineering degree in Naval Architecture from the University of Southampton. Over his career at LR, James has held various technical, commercial, and leadership roles globally. His experience spans marine surveyor positions in Italy, Dubai, and China, to commercial and general management roles in the UK, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Now based in Singapore, James leverages his extensive international experience to lead decarbonization initiatives within the maritime sector. His leadership from LR’s headquarters in the UK to his current role underscores his dedication to advancing sustainable maritime practices worldwide.

James’s expertise and commitment to innovation position him as a key figure in driving the industry towards a greener future. 

George Haysom

George Haysom is Chief Commercial Officer at Idwal, the ship inspection, technology and data business. George is an accomplished business development and commercial leader with 18 years’ experience in the industry. Before Idwal, he was most recently Group Commercial Director at Anglo-Eastern with a fleet of over 650 vessels under full technical management. George started his career as a broker with Braemar, before moving on to Gulf Marine Service, PLC as General Manager, where he oversaw the fleet management of offshore vessels.

At Idwal, George is key to the strategic development of the business’ offerings to target markets and, since joining, has been especially focused on the development of the condition improvement programme, Idwal ID, engaging clients across the industry to understand how data-driven insights from regular condition inspections can help them optimise their businesses.

Capt. Mahyar Erach Jokhi

As INTERTANKO’s Gas Manager, Mahyar Erach Jokhi oversees the organisation’s initiatives on gas, both as cargo and as an alternative fuel, ensuring efficient and safe gas transportation. He is currently seconded from Anglo-Eastern Ship Management as a subject matter expert, to assist INTERTANKO’s strategic work plan on gas-related issues.

Mahyar has significant expertise in HSEQ and regulatory compliance, which he utilizes to enhance both the seaworthiness and environmental sustainability of ships. With extensive hands-on experience commanding various types of gas tankers, Mahyar brings a wealth of practical knowledge to the position.

Mahyar’s role also involves advancing training programs for seafarers, with a focus on alternate fuels and effective inspection practices. His dedication to training highlights his belief in the crucial role of a well-prepared workforce in upholding high standards of safety and efficiency in gas transportation.

In his capacity as Secretary to INTERTANKO’s Gas Tanker Committee, Mahyar represents the gas tanker industry in engagements with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and other national and international organizations. Since joining INTERTANKO in early 2022, he has gained invaluable technical and political insights, reinforcing his position as a key advocate for the gas tanker sector. 

After spending two years with INTERTANKO in London, he recently relocated to Singapore and continues in the same role as a key advocate for the gas tanker sector.

Celia Kang

Celia Kang is the Head of Crew Manning at Eastaway, a member of X-Press Feeders Group. She has nearly two decades of experience in the maritime industry in various roles. Finally in 2009, she found her interest in the people business and have been in various crewing related roles since then. 

In 2022, she joined the Eastaway team where she played a pivotal role in setting up the Crewing function in the organisation. With her team, they took over close to 60 vessels and this includes the newly delivered dual fuel – methanol enabled container vessels.

Kennet Lim

Kenneth is the Assistant Chief Executive (Industry & Transformation) of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) since 1 Jan 2021. Kenneth has built up a strong network of maritime Singapore industry players, including digitalisation and HR innovators of shipping companies and the startup community. He currently oversees the Transformation Office, International Maritime Centre, Business Capability Development, as well as Innovation, Technology, and Talent Development.

Kenneth was seconded from the Government Technology Agency (GovTech) in 2017 as Chief Technology Officer. In GovTech, he was the Cluster Director tasked with harnessing information and communications technology and related engineering for public sector transformation, covering 10 public agencies’ CIO teams. Kenneth has over 25 years of technology-related experience, starting his career as a programmer in PSA, and becoming Vice President of Technology Development, Trade & Logistics in CrimsonLogic, and Senior Vice President in the Energy Market Company before joining the public sector in 2011. His
professional experience covers sectors in the Sea Port, Logistics IT, and Energy industries.

Kenneth was awarded the “Supply Chain Asia – Visionary of the Year” in 2019 and is a frequent speaker at many conferences and events advocating digitalisation. He was also awarded the “The Public Administration Medal (Silver) (COVID-19)” in 2022 for his outstanding contributions to Singapore’s fight against COVID-19.

Cynthia Mark Mohan

Supply chain and shipping professional with Master of International Business qualifications. Cynthia has 15 years of progressive experience in global, regional and local roles delivering strategically significant digital and operational solutions with revenue accountability in ocean carrier operations.

Cynthia’s current role in digitalisation at Jurong Port makes her responsible for strategising, creating and implementing full-scale digital solutions to further support Jurong Port’s ambitions to be an efficient port operator in the multi-purpose port sector.  

Jamie Morgan Ramsamy

Jamie Ramsamy is the Chief Digital Officer at OSM Thome, a leading maritime services provider. He has nearly two decades of experience in the maritime and oil & gas industries. Jamie began his career with DNV, working across Sub-Saharan Africa, Germany, The Netherlands, China, South Korea, and Singapore, where he managed complex engineering projects, including offshore new building construction and design. 

In 2016, Jamie joined Thome Group, where he played a pivotal role in strategic transformation, compliance initiatives, and the development of the group’s sustainability framework. He was later appointed Chief Digital Officer at OSM Thome in 2023, where he leads the company’s digital strategy. 

Jamie holds an Executive MBA from INSEAD and is a Chartered Mechanical and Marine Engineer, blending his technical expertise with strong business acumen. He is recognized for his ability to lead diverse global teams toward innovative solutions. 

Peter Schellenberger

Born German and multilingual, Peter has spent 34 years in Asia in executive positions in various areas such as trading, manufacturing and the maritime/logistics industry. Now living and travelling out of Germany and enjoying geographic flexibility. 

The maritime part of his career started 16 years ago in Singapore when he managed two leading Ship Chandling companies before joining the VGroup to head the Supply Chain and the Marcas Asia procurement pool, Maritime Service business in Asia development and the VGroup global agency portfolio. the 

In leading ship management company OSM Peter set up smart maritime services company OSERV as Managing Director to create a digital e-procurement platform for fleet and third-party clients and is responsible for procurement and future-driven Maritime services and Ecosystem. 

In the major ship management company Thome he had a similar portfolio and also looked after the Group’s Global Supply Chain and logistic functions as Vice President of Supply Chain. 

Peter was also Managing Director of Supply Chain Specialist Thome subsidiary Vanir Marine Pte Ltd building a smart industry digital marketplace with outsourced service procurement functions and catering services. 

Since April 2023 he set up Novamaxis Pte Ltd, running a supply chain and maritime consulting network specialised in digitalisation, sustainability and start-up financing and nurture. Including own investments and board or ambassadorial positions. Based in Singapore but operating globally for both shipowners/managers and suppliers/service providers addressing bottlenecks and strategic growth areas. 

Capt. Rahul Sapra

With 29 years in maritime, Rahul Sapra, a Master Mariner and Loss Prevention Director (Asia Pacific), has been pivotal to the club’s loss prevention team since 2013. Rahul’s extensive career spans both sea and shore roles, including Marine Superintendent and independent Marine Surveyor, where he conducted P&I condition surveys, SIRE pre-vettings, TMSA audits, and more. 

In his role, Rahul expertly manages the Asia-Pacific loss prevention program, ensuring operational safety while working closely with underwriting and claims teams to minimize claims. His sea experience complements his shore-based work, covering the club’s P&I portfolio in the Coastal & Inland, and Offshore & Renewables sectors in Asia. 

A Class 1 COC and P&IQ Advanced Certificate holder, Rahul is committed to continuous improvement. He actively speaks at maritime events on behalf of the club and the Nautical Institute, using his vast experience to clarify complex issues. Rahul is also an Associate Fellow of the Nautical Institute and has been a member of the Singapore Nautical Institute committee since its inception, working to advance seafarer standards, safety, and wellbeing. 

Outside work, Rahul’s enthusiasm for Formula 1 drives him to volunteer as a race marshal at the Singapore Grand Prix. 

Christopher Saunders

Christopher Saunders serves as the Chief Maritime Officer at RightShip, where he leverages more than 17 years of industry experience. In his capacity, he oversees the Marine Excellence team, focusing on the fusion of product development, advanced technology, and deep-seated maritime knowledge to ensure that RightShip’s offerings meet customer needs and adhere to marine standards.

Previously, Christopher occupied the role of Chief Product Officer at RightShip, utilising his considerable knowledge in maritime operations and market intelligence to advance the company’s digital solutions, rating systems, and due diligence initiatives. His professional history spans roles aboard LNG Tankers with Shell and Chevron, as well as shore-based Operations and Vetting positions at MOL LNG.

He is a fervent advocate for progressive changes that elevate safety measures, environmental stewardship, and the welfare of seafarers within the maritime sector. 

 

Hari Subramaniam

After 17 years of sailing, Hari came ashore and headed the Commercial and Operations department of a reputable shipping company which owned and operated bulk carriers, offshore vessels, tugs and barges. Hari then moved on to help start-up the operations of a leading offshore company which owned and operated several state-of-the-art AHTSVs and PSVs. Hari joined The Shipowners’ Club in Sep 2009 overseeing the development and growth of the Loss Prevention Department in Singapore till November 2019.  

Hari has now assumed a larger role as Regional Head – Business relations whereby he enhances deeper engagement with key stakeholders to improve safety awareness and risk management ethos across the industry. Hari also runs the Club’s MEDISEA (Enhanced Pre-employment Medical Examination) Scheme which offers comprehensive health and wellbeing initiatives for seafarers’ sailing on board entered vessels and their families.  

In recognition of his efforts, Hari was awarded the “Outstanding Individual Contribution to Safety at Sea” by the MPA Singapore in Dec 2020. He continues to work closely with the MPA and other regional Flag administrations and shipping bodies towards and improving the culture of shipping in the region.  

Hari also contributes to the industry with representation on the MPA’s National Maritime Safety at Sea Council (NMSSC) as well as the MPA- Harbour Craft Safety working group.  

Hari is the Chairperson of the Nautical Institute (Singapore) and also a Fellow of the NI Main Council. He is also the founding Chairperson and a Fellow of the Company of the Master Mariners of India (CMMI) Singapore Branch as well as a Member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (MICS).  

Hari has a MBA degree in Human Resources and International management apart from his Master Mariner’s Licence and has recently completed his PG Diploma at World Maritime University (WMU) in Maritime energy to assist the industry with the decarbonization efforts. 

Sanjeev Thasari

Sanjeev Thasari is a seasoned marine professional with over two decades of experience in the maritime industry. He is presently managing the role of Product Sales Manager, Simulation at Wartsila Voyage, Singapore. With a deep understanding of marine products and services with his domain expertise, he is responsible for key account and customer relationship management by supporting clients with simulation product details & features and working internally on simulation product development.

He is focused on the technological simulation products supporting the training needs of the maritime industry moving ahead at rapid pace towards decarbonization. He had sailed earlier for 10 years on ocean-going Aframax tankers primarily. Thereafter, he has been working ashore for the last 10 years in the sales domain driving the life-cycle value of product portfolio to customers by leveraging on marine technical expertise.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with Chief Engineers license and a Masters in Shipping & finance from BAYES BUSINESS SCHOOL, London

Capt. Yves Vandenborn

Yves Vandenborn is a master mariner and sailed with Exmar Nv. Belgium on chemical/product, LNG and LPG tankers. Since coming ashore in 2003, Yves has worked as a marine superintendent and as an independent marine surveyor undertaking numerous P&I condition surveys, oil major SIRE pre-vettings, TMSA audits, pre-purchase surveys, bulk carrier hatch cover ultra-sonic tests, etc. 

He joined the club in Singapore in February 2010. Following the merger in 2023, he was appointed as Head of Loss Prevention, at Asia-Pacific. In this capacity Yves oversees all loss prevention activities within the Asia-Pacific GeoSector, together with his team of five regional LP executives. These activities include providing guidance to members on a wide range of topics, benchmarking claims records and determining trends, contributing to crew seminars and member workshops and generally working on improving club/member engagement. Yves is also heading the Decarbonisation as well as the People and Wellbeing services offered by the club. 

Yves regularly speaks at shipping industry events across the world on behalf of the club and the Nautical Institute. He uses his vast personal experience to explain serious issues in a way that is interesting and relevant to the audience. He uses anecdotes and lessons learnt from his sailing career to illustrate best practice guidelines, making him a welcome fixture at many speaking engagements. He is a member of the Safe Navigation working group, part of the Singapore National Maritime Safety@Sea Council, which reviews the safe operation of the port of Singapore, reporting to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore. 

In line with his beliefs of giving back to the industry, Yves is currently closely engaged in maritime discourse topics such as seafarer wellbeing (physical, mental, and social), misdeclared container cargoes, vehicle car carrier fires and navigation-related incidents. 

Yves is a Fellow of the Nautical Institute and following his tenure as the Hon President of the Nautical Institute Singapore branch between 2020 and 2024, he was appointed to the Nautical Institute’s Executive Board. In this capacity, Yves works closely with the local maritime industry for the improvement of seafarer standards, safety and well-being.

Most recently he served as CEO at inriver, a global leader in digitization through product information management. At inriver Thomas accelerated international growth across all regions, increased customer retention, brought new and additional solutions to market as well as added strategic capabilities via M&A. Raal Harris is the Chief Creative Officer of Ocean Technologies Group with responsibility for leading brand development, marketing and communications activities ensuring a great brand experience for all stakeholders..

He is also responsible for developing and driving strategy and efforts in developing direct to consumer services across online courses, assessment and other value-added streams.

Prior to taking his group role, Raal was Managing Director of Videotel, where he spent fifteen years gaining extensive experience in Maritime E-Learning and the production of maritime training content and software solutions.

Raal’s diverse background includes university lectureships in interaction design, information product design, and computer games design. An active participant in the maritime industry Raal is involved with numerous seafarer welfare, ship management and trade associations.

Tracy Maraj is Chief People & Culture Officer at Ocean Technology Group with responsibility for leading our people agenda, developing effective strategies to deliver our business objectives which supports our people to maximise their full potential in a culture that cultivates openness, inclusivity, and diversity.

With a diverse background spanning roles across Finance, Sales Operations and People, Tracy brings a depth of experience from companies during hypergrowth, global expansion and transformational change in companies which include Mews, Salesforce, Cisco, Netscape, Opsware and Loudcloud.

Nicholas Goubert

Nicholas Goubert is Chief Product Officer at Ocean Technologies Group with responsibility for the strategic leadership and management of the company’s products, overseeing their development, and ensuring their alignment with business objectives, market needs, and customer satisfaction. He is a highly experienced product leader with over 15 years of experience in fintech, media and music, location services, mobility and big data.

Nicholas is passionate about building strong product creation teams, with an emphasis on cross-functional work to deliver innovative products that shape the future of industries, having demonstrated this in a number of sectors and verticals across Clark, SoundCloud, Native Instruments, HERE and Nokia. He enjoys mentoring product managers, uniting cross-functional teams and building great products for his customers.

Alex Ponomarev

Alex began his maritime journey aboard tourist icebreakers with Poseidon Arctic Voyages in 2005, before joining Ship Management company SCF-Group as IT Manager in 2008. He has gone on to enjoy a 15-year career in maritime education and technology including 13 years specialising in professional simulation systems with Transas/Wartsila.

Since joining Ocean Technologies Group at the beginning of 2021, Alex has headed up the sales and account management team for Europe, the Middle East and Africa that takes care of customer needs across Learning, Fleet and Crew Management solutions. End of July, Alex relocated to Singapore to take on the same role, but for the APAC region.

Passionate about information technologies and developing seafarer skills, Alex is a firm believer in the value of relationships and in investing time in maintaining a strong network in the maritime community.

Ronni Palmqvist

Ronni has dedicated over two decades to the maritime industry, building an impressive career rooted in regulatory expertise and business acumen. After earning his degree as a Mechanical Engineer in 2004, he embarked on his maritime journey with Alfa Laval, where he gained foundational insights into the industry. His passion for maritime operations led him to further his education with a degree in International Business.

In 2009, Ronni joined Pres-Vac Engineering (later acquired by G&O Maritime Group), where he deepened his understanding of maritime rules and regulations. Six years ago, Ronni took a bold step and founded DanDocs, a company specializing in regulatory compliance for maritime businesses. Under his leadership, DanDocs rapidly grew into a market leader, recognized for its flagship product, MarineRegulations.

In 2024, DanDocs was acquired by Ocean Technologies Group, and Ronni continued as CEO, driven by a mission to enhance regulatory compliance across the maritime sector. Throughout his career, Ronni has established himself as a leading expert in maritime regulations, dedicated to helping companies navigate complex regulatory landscapes. His contributions have significantly impacted the industry, ensuring safer and more compliant maritime operations worldwide.

Colin Leech is Senior Director of Customer Support at Ocean Technologies Group with responsibility for leading support delivery across Learning, Fleet Management and Crewing solutions. 

Before joining Ocean Technologies Group, Colin has twenty plus years of experience across support engineering and support leadership roles within fast-growing business intelligence, data privacy solutions and hospitality property management SaaS software companies. Colin is passionate about building support delivery teams with strong problem-solving capabilities, communication, empathy and knowledge management principles at the core.
